For those of you out there who want to know what being an anime otaku in Japan back in the 1980s was like, there's actually a semi-historical anime OAV out there (on YouTube, sadly. It's no longer in release)! The two part OAV is called "Otaku no Video", and it's sort of a semi-biographic look at how the studio GAINAX got its start, back in the early 80s. It has a very tongue-in-cheek manner of presenting the story, even including fake "documentary" inserts that depict interviews with "real-life" otaku (actually staff members of studio GAINAX). It's definitely worth watching, so give it a look!!
